ASL
so far has focused on the China, Hong Kong,
Haiphong market through two services offered
jointly with TS Lines, the Central China,
Hong Kong, Vietnam service (HHX) and the
Shenzhen-Yantian-Hong Kong, Haiphong shuttle
(YHH). Of note, Cheng Lie has been taking
slots on the HHX service. These services
are primarily regional services connecting
various regions together.
X-Press
Feeders adds a Straits-Vietnam link and
offers a new weekly service connecting Singapore
and Port Kelang to North and South Vietnam
through slots on Evergreen's Vietnam Singapore
Malaysia (VSM) service, branded Vietnam
Strait X-Press(VSX) by X-Press. The service
calls at Port Kelang, Singapore, Tanjung
Pelepas, Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh City (Tan
Cang-Hiep Phuoc), Port Kelang. It turns
in two weeks using two Evergreen-operated
A class 1,164-TEU sister ships. the Ever
Ally and the Ever Apex.
X-Press
Feeders will commercialise all the ports
served by the VSM, except Tanjung Pelepas.
The
VSX will complement X-Press Feeders' current
service offer to Vietnam, that mainly focuses
on China, through its China Vietnam and
Haiphong Yantian X-Press services (CVX/HYX).
X-Press
Feeders has added last week a second ship
to the service launched in March together
with Simatech between the Jebel Ali hub
and Doha (Qatar), branded DUX by X-Press
and DJS by Simatech.
XPress
brought the recently chartered 1,078-TEU
New Dynamic to the service, adding to Simatech's
1,201-TEU Sima Pride. For X-Press Feeders,
the additional weekly sailing strengthens
its connections between Qatar and its Far
East and India-related services via transshipment
at Jebel Ali. As for Simatech, the service
connects with its network covering ISC,
Far East, SE Asia and East Africa.
And
if intra-Asia can encompass East Africa,
then an argument can be made that it can
include the transpacific if the trade as
a regional complexion. Such a case might
be allowed with the offering of the Mariana
Express Lines (MELL), a niche carrier in
which PIL took a majority stake in March,
is to enter the Far East-west coast North
America trade as a co-loader on the five
transpacific loops on which PIL currently
participates, either as a tonnage provide
or as a slot taker, namely the TP2, TP3,
ASW, ANW (FE-USWC segment of pendulum) and
AAC.
These
five services allow to connect East Asia
key ports to Los Angeles/Long Beach, Oakland,
Seattle and Vancouver. The arrangement should
allow in particular to offer connections
between MELL's East Pacific and Micronesia
network and the US.
The
MELL network covers Micronesia, Guam and
Asian insular states, including Philippines,
Borneo, Timor and Papua New Guinea.
